It's been a while since I walked a permission with my gun, and on Wednesday night after the rain had stopped I made my way around the fields at the back of my house. Initially I planned a couple of hours out. All this changed as I started seeing rabbits within minutes of leaving home. I managed to bag 7 rabbits in about 40 minutes then encountered a pair of foxes walking the hedgerow. For the next 15 to 20 minutes I never saw another rabbit so decided to go home and will try again over Christmas sometime.
The foxes were only about 40 yards off and disappeared as soon as they knew I was about. I would never have tried a shot at them with a sub 12 ft/lb gun but if I'd had a rifle or shotgun we would have been 2 less foxes on the permission.
The permission owner is over the moon that I am getting back into it, as he says the rabbits are causing a real problem but he will not let anybody he does not know shoot his land. A mate of his has just had permission off to shoot the foxes so hopefully we will see less of them over the coming months.
Looking forward to my next foray already
OH BY THE WAY
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY

i've only been out a couple of times since my operation, although i've kept my eye in, and had a fair few rats here by franks boat. its very comfortable sitting bench rested at the patio table

picked a new shoot up about 3 months ago, and had 3 rabbits when i gave it the once over. one of my brothers has booked me in for some squirrels and my favourite magpies on some land he owns in the new year

the best bit is i can get hidden in his barn to save me walking round and tiring meself out

could do with a few more rats meself by the boats

they get wary when you get the numbers down, but i must admit i enjoy the challenge when they play hard to get.
they certainly learn by the mistakes of their mates
