This young man humbled me a few years ago at the memorial service at the haines motor museum when i shook his hand and thanked him for all he had done and he said "thank you sir , i did what anyone else in my regiment would have done , they deserve it more than me. "
so fellas , if you have served (even briefly) in our fine armed forces THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart . you have my respect and will forever be called my friend .

My late uncle had a DFC and bar from WW2, he went right through the war as a tail gunner, he was a breed apart, it takes a special type of person to do what these people do. Sad part was that as an old man, he used to wonder whether it was worth what he, and the hundreds of comrades he knew who didn't make it, had done, when he saw on the media how louts would beat up pensioners of his age for a few pounds, or just for the hell of it. He died almost four years ago aged 95. God take care of him and all of his generation who made huge sacrifices on our behalf.

That must be a particularly galling part when you and folks of your generation laid their lives on the line for a better future for your countrymen.
It would finish me seeing the state of parts of our country, that seem to be going to the dogs.
So bloody sad isn't it!!

Re: Victoria Cross Recipient
now, you may not like the man, but, Jeremy Clarkson did an utterly brilliant documentary about VC recipients, it`s on youtube, he mentions his father in law (whom he never met) had one, no-one -even his family, knew, the man didn`t think it worth mentioning, JC tells the mans & others story of how they got their awards, it`s an astonishing story of the bravery of some very special people!
