ADVICE please.

Sun Feb 21, 2016 10:35 pm

Ok so I am down to just the one rifle ( .22 s410) been thinking of treating myself. I fancy something regulated and in .177 flavour.
I have arrowed it down to.......
1. Hw100
2. Bsa r10 mk2
3.lothar rm8
4. Fx wildcat.

Any views on these rifles would be very much appreciated.

Hw100, fantastically accurate and easy to shoot. They are heavy and quite technically complex though.

If the reg is important to you have a look at a BSA Gold Star SE.
Seven years ago I had a reg fitted to my AA S400 by Tench or Tweaky as he was known on this forum. The gun has been used a lot, a very lot and yet it has never missed a beat, less than 7fps from shot 1 to shot 120. When I read that Tench had helped in the development of a new regulator for the Gold Star that was enough for me when I had the same decision to make as you last year.
Hope this helps.

Out of all them you list I would choose the HW100, .177 all day long.

Here is the reason why?... FX airguns although Fx has come up with some ingenuous designs and technology... Parts will be a nightmare to get hold of and very expensive indeed and you will waiting forever if your FX has to go back too the manufacture.... if you don't get along with your FX wildcat you will not get nowhere near the Money back you paid for it band new because not many people like the Tactical look of the FX rifles.

The BSA R10, a stunning looking rifle indeed,,, and should have been a winner for BSA,,, but sadly BSA buggered the reputation up with the seriously bad problems with MK1 rifle. Even the Mk2 R10 has had 3 new magazines upgrades put out onto the market since the R10 mk2 model was supposed to be totally sorted.
Finally the newest plastic internal parts on the new magazines may actually bloody work properly. and you car't fill the R10 with air wile the bi-pod fitted as this covers the filling port....... who? the hell designed that!...

The wonderful R10 magazine here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk8lbxlgNmo

The parts inside the Walther RM8 may as well be made of chocolate.

And Yes!... I know the HW100 do have air leaks... Occasionally, so do all pcps... and there was Batch of .22 rifles that had inaccurate barrels,,, but I would still take the HW100 over any of the above all day long.

You get 2 magazines included with hw100 and a choice of walnut stock configurations Sporter of thumb-hole and you don't pay extra for Walnut... you only get walnut.
And remember you can fit any scope you like at any height you choose,,, as the magazine fits flush into the action... and you get best moderator on the market included.

Thanks for all the comments guys. The two front runners were the R10 and the HW 100.
So what if I was to throw the new Galahad into the mix ¿ I know it's early and no reviews as such. What I really want the 2nd rifle for is my night vision add-on similar to nite site so lighter the better really. Want decent shot count and 177 is more forgiving with range estimation in pitch black. HW very strong contender at moment.
And Grandad thanks for the offer, but as you know the prospect of a new toy is hard to wait for lol.

Don't write any of those rifles off on your list. They will all perform well. Its your choice in the end, but there are loads of YouTube videos on all of your choices showing just how well they shoot. I have put a few links on for you to see.

One is of the Walther R8 in .22, which was grouping all eight shots within a 5p piece at 45 yards, by Simon Pittaway of Vermin hunters tv. This rifle comes in at around £400, so you'd still have loads left for scope, bipod and case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yiswmqs_sQE

Also with the BSA's they can all be moded and tuned over standard off the shelf versions. Phil Crampton and XTX Air do this, so you could even buy second hand and have them improved to your own choice. The last time that I spoke to Phil, he had a few rifles for sale that he had already done work on for sale. This video shows how well Phil can tune a BSA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP4dS1Zos8A

Here's another one of Si Pittaway's videos on his HW100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqnQejOTsY4

Here is one for the FX, which is the most expensive of your choices, but a very well made rifle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7A95u-CjMg

ive looked at wildcat, lovely rifle light and very high shot count. very expensive now gone up to 1050 pounds from 899..

I have the hw100 in .177 full length and i get 120shots and its more accurate and reliable then i am..HW100 all the way.
