Help S200 12 ft/lb .22 cal chrony

Mon Jan 18, 2016 10:23 am

Hi Experts,

I bought a CZ200 and didn't change the power setting. the markings say it's 12 ft/lb rifle, I checked in chronograph
I bought from blackpool air rifles (combro) and found out the power range below:

150 - 550 fps
140 - 555 fps
130 - 565 fps
120 - 565 fps
110 - 555 fps

My concern is that, when I searched for for .22 cal S200 chrony tests, most results give 720 fps or something to 700 range...
mine only gives 565 max. is this fine? is 720 higher than 12 ft/lb?

Thank you for your inputs.
Jeff

Please note:

150 BAR - 550 fps
140 BAR - 555 fps
130 BAR - 565 fps
120 BAR - 565 fps
110 BAR - 555 fps

using crosman pointed 14.3 grains.

Thank you.

The 700fps results you've seen will be for either .177 or .22 FAC

Your .22 pushing your 14.3gr pellets at 565fps is giving 10.14ft/lb

hmm sorry for my lack of understanding, but I just checked the highest chrony I got is 571 fps
for a .22 using 14.3 grains crosman pointed...

is this fine? I thought the 720 fps is 12ft/lb...

Thank you for your quick response.

I hope it's not too much to ask, can you give a range of FPS for : 10 ft/lb, 11 ft/lb to 12ft/lb

Thank you,
Jeff

Hi
I typed your figures into here
http://www.pyramydair.com/article/What_ ... ust_2003/5

Using your 14.3grain Crosman pellets-
10ft/lb = 561ft/sec
11ft/lb=588ft/sec
11.99ft/lb=614ft/sec

Is your rifle's accuracy consistent?
10.14lb/ft is a little low, but if it's consistent why change things

Thank you for the feedback, yeah I think it's not worth to push the power higher since it's just small difference, still it can do what 11.99 ft/lb can do.
I thought at first that 12ft/lb should be around 700-800 fps for .22 so I think it's ok. besides it's out of the box configuration, so I'll trust CZ.

Thanks again :)

If it's brand new it will most likely increase in power a little as everything beds in and might end up around 11ft/lb.
Check it over your chrono every now & then

I hope so, I thought it might go down as the springs or other parts will loosen a little, but is it a fact that brand new pcps gets a little bit high power than when it's purchased when used? Just asking from experienced shooters sorry for too many questions and yes I'll check chrony from time to time as advised :)

Thanks,
Jeff

Pellet choice always makes a difference, so some achieve higher, or lower results over the chrony. Air Arms Diablo at 16 grains, or JSB Jumbo Diablo at 14.89 will probably send you towards the higher end of the scale, as all pellets fit the barrel in their own way. It will make a difference if they are either too tight, or a looser fit, so head size also makes a difference. I use 5.52 diameter head in my Air Arms S200 and Webley LiteW8 with Air Arms Diablo Field, which tend to do better in a pre charge. You will find that most tune their rifles to around, or just over the 11 ft/lb, as a pellet can make that much difference between the 11ft/lb and 12ft/lb. All manufacturers claim that their rifles are 12 ft/lb, only because they believe that the best pellet used won't go over that limit. You could tune your rifle to suit your pellet to get close to the 12 ft/lb, but if the police ever tested it with their own brand of pellet, it could go over the 12 ft/lb limit, even though you don't use their brand of pellet. Experiment and try choosing the best pellet to get you to the power and accuracy you require for the most power and efficiency. Its all trial and error, and what makes our sport interesting and challenging. Once you find the best pellet for accuracy, stick to it, then make out your own range card. I spent 12 hours on the range testing my four favorite pellets from 15 yards to 55 yards in 5 yard increments using my Walter 3 x 12 Mil Dot Scope. By doing this you can work out your ranges for the different pellets. I found between the lightest and heaviest pellet that adjustment could be as much as 8 clicks elevation on my 1/4 inch adjustment at 100 yards. Good luck with your testing. Remember its always best to invest in a good pellet, than get bad groups for buying cheap, especially if you go hunting and want a clean kill.
