How to look after your air gun

I have looked around and I cannot find a how you should look after an air gun? Lots of write-ups on old guns but nothing on modern guns?

Cleaning, oiling, treating stocks, how often etc. anyone know of anything out there?

All i do with mine is let aclimatise when i get home,live it in a room until dry especially through winter,then i give mine a polish with mr sheen,some folk oil the metal work but i dont want the mess,i couldnt tell you about walnut treatments sorry

I would add that if you do get the rifle wet or just damp remember that the moisture will penetrate the gap between the action and the stock and probably soak into the non-oiled or varnished wood there. You need to be sure its properly dry all over. Although some would argue, I would recommend that you don't store it in a gun slip which in its own right can hold atmospheric moisture but let it breath. As to oiling, I just put a few drops of Parker Hale - or similar - on a pice of kitchen roll and give it a quick once over. It also get gets rid of acidic finger marks. Loads of stock oils - take your pick - mine is a local brew from the gunsmiths.

just get some light gun oil and wipe it all over the rifle stock and all, and lightly oil any moving parts also,

After a cold or wet day I leave mine plus slip to air off then wipe over with an oily rag or a rag with WD40. I’ve never had any trouble with rust afterwards.

Keep it clean, dry and oiled from time to time - especially if it gets wet. Desist from over lubricating with oil or grease. It only needs a small touch.

hi there for the metal I would use vp90 or ballistol you can also use this on wood but for the stock a little walnut or Danish oil take the action off the stock and get in all the crevices but only use a little or you could wax the birchwood casey gun wax is good stuff it all depends on the finish of your stock .stokie99

Many thanks for the replies, ok the outer is covered. Another question? When and where should grease or oil be applied to the bolt action etc? I am assuming that over the course of time dust etc will collect and dry the surfaces?

on any thing that moves metal to metal , but do not let it go on seals or on any thing that touches the pellet or in the chamber or in the barrel .

Never use silicon oil or grease on metal to metal surfaces - it'll gall up & seize
