.177 400 carbine string

Mon Aug 03, 2015 8:42 am

Did a string today from 190b
First 10 where 770's
10>20 780's
20>30 high 80'>low 90
30>40 low 790 (170b)
40>50 mid 790 (150b)
50>60 mid 790 (140b)
60>70 780's (130b)
70>80 high 770 then dropped off quick showing 120b

Bar reading from gauge only, this rifle was bought secondhand over the weekend

How much difference would a regged setup offer, this will be my hft rifle as Im going to have a bash next year

Regards

Chris

Looking at the string, from say, just before shot 30 to shot 60 you were getting a 10fps total spread.

So that's around 35 ish shots all within 10 fps.

With the reg fitted you could have the same 10 fps spread lasting around 80+ shots..

Sorting and weighing the pellets will bring this down to sub 5 fps total spread..

I am using a Lancet reg by Robert Lane, its a fantastically engineered little thing...

I fitted mine myself, but if you don't want to do that there is XTX air, The Rat works, Airmasters 88, Ben Taylor and Son ect....

Expect to pay £200+ to have one supplied and fitted..

Because I am tight and like to do everything myself, it cost me £80 and was a very enjoyable little project..

Knowing nowt about PCP's may I ask the following... Do regulators have a life span and if so is it typically measured in shots or just chronological age and typically what is said lifespan prior refurbishment / replacement ?
I assume a bit of a a "how long is a piece of string" type question but, are they generally fit and forget or do they require servicing / replacement?

A regulator is just a type of valve that allows through a metered amount of air, its inner workings consist of a piston, a very strong spring or Belleville washers and some O-rings..

Maintenance consists of cleaning the regulator body, piston, replacing the O-rings and re-lubricating..

As for how often, how long is a piece of string.... But I think it would be safe to assume very long service intervals.

Well, jumped in and bought a lane reg, had a chat with the guy too.
No, Ive never had a pcp fully apart but thought what the heck, parts arrived 9.30 this morning so I went for it, it took allday finishing 6.30, had it apart five times fine tuning. Reg was fitted inside an hour and half, rest of time was testing and working on it, first off it had a worse fps av than before which worried me !!

Each time I improved it up to the last which I only got 80 shots off as I had to leave for a family bbq, but that last string showed every 10 shots gave me between 3.75fps and 1.73 fps Av and it had 115bar left from a 180 fill. So Ive got 80 great shots with air left
Anyone thinking about it, DO IT

Cheers

Chris
