S400 Potential Barrel Upgrade

Wed Feb 23, 2022 2:22 pm

Hi All,
I'm currently running an S400 carbine in and HFT laminate stock which i like the balance of. I'm interested in free floating the barrel, but feel the s400 barrel is too thin. Is it possible to shorten a CZ 200 barrel and if turned down will it then fit the s400 breech block? Would it also be worth opening up the breech block hole to a wider diameter so there is more strength so less turning down of the barrel?
Anyone done this or have some ideas please?

Many Thanks in advance!

Richard

I have a S400 with a S200 barrel. I had it made many years ago, from memory they turned the barrel down to fit the block.
I haven't tried free floating it as it is amazingly accurate with a barrel band on.

Thanks Gnome!, trying also to find sizes of the brass end (2 piece) so I can turn a set up - does anyone know the dimensions please?

from memory - was ~15 years ago that I built one from S2/3/4** parts, iirc there was a lot of S300 in there but all S3/4** components (& plenty of S5**) share same
ancestry....
don't bother trying to copy the S3/4/5** breach seal design, easiest to machine a groove in the loading-probe and follow the S200's design (& it suits the barrel / transfer-port ;) )

was the S200 barrel better than the S4** barrel? I tested both on the same lower (valving & hammer / trigger) & didn't see anything noteworthy

I'll not mention the 75 yard groupings

all the details & photo's are lost with the old AAOC forum's demise :|

BUT,...

is it any better or more accurate?

my 2p is not really

definately helps you think you'll shoot better though - emperror's new clothes come to mind?

the 'tune' or adjustment & setup of the valving / trigger probably contribute more as consistant valve-opening, mimimal air use and 'jetting' / muzzleblast / muzzleflip as well as not 'pulling' a heavy trigger can keep you on target :?

i've got a s200 barrel on my hft500. It was turned down and is free floated and is brilliant. From memory they start off life 15mm (?) so should turn down onto your rifle i would have thought. Good luck.
