S400 multishot magazine Rowans Engineering.

Fri May 29, 2020 5:46 pm

HI, I should have contacted rowan earlier today, but they are now closed. Does anyone know if their S400 multishot magazine is self indexing?

No, you have to rotate it manually.
I don't have a problem with this at all... becomes second nature once you've got used to it.

As Tonyc says, brilliant piece of kit, and has certain advantages i.e. Decocking is easy, and you can't double load unless you turn the mag by mistake, been using them for years with no problems on S400 and S200

Thank you for your comments, i was hoping it was self indexing because i am a lazy git. I take your comments to heart and will probably bite the bullet and buy one>

Just a note to consider is the side you choose to index from. I am right handed and chose to index from the right as when I wear gloves, the fingers are folded back on my trigger hand giving me a better feel. I contacted Rowan to ask if they could be indexed from both sides and they said, although possible, there would be a risk of dislodging the magazine.

I am right handed but index with the left hand. I find it more natural when holding the rifle to just side my left hand back on the fore stock. Also it's easier to remove the mag by pulling back the bolt with the right hand and, at the same time, slipping the mag out with the left... all in one action, no need to cock. It can be done right-handed but you'd need to cock the rifle then remove the mag... two separate actions with the right hand.

It's not a disaster if you go for the wrong one. The retaining clamp is the same. You just buy a left or right-handed mag and return/swap it if you make the wrong initial choice.

I made mine so that I could load from any side and it worked very well.
Excellent bit of kit and a doddle to use.
