A sad loss to music.
Love him or loathe him or totally indifferent to him, nobody can deny his creative genius, his energy, his influence, his showmanship, his intelligence through the decades.
I was never a great fan but I recognise all of this and more.........
RIP

I and others got thrown out of Pickering Liberal Club for singing "Can you hear me Ginger Tom" instead of "can you hear me Major Tom". We had a fellow young Liberal who had a mop of bright ginger hair (the right hair colour for such a party). They let us meet in one of their rooms but as we disturbed the staid old pipe smoking members in the billiards room upstairs we got ejected. I think I became an extreme right winger soon after that
That David Bowie hit was the tune of the time. I think most, including David Bowie wished to forget the Laughing Gnome.
