Coup de Grass

Well given my lawn is still growing up here on the North East coast I aim to cut it on New Years Eve. Crazy. The roses are looking good too on one of the standard rose bushes - a lovely deep red. The sprouts haven't tasted as good this year as no frost nor the parsnips - somehow a frost enhances the flavour. Still as wind making though those sprouts

How are your gardens doing?

I have a dog rose growing in my hedge and it was still in flower until about two weeks ago i think it would still be in flower but the winds of late have stripped the petals.
My lawn is also in need of a cut

Lawn is looking ready for a cut indeed !!! ... and nice play on the word 'coup'
While the original 'coup de grace' does not mean 'to cut', the verb 'to cut' in French is after all 'couper'

I have a clematis that has hardly shed a leaf yet. And a standard rose with some lovely yellow flowers on it. The grass is 6in deep but too wet to cut.

Job done today, ridiculous to be cutting the grass at the end of December, in the south facing hedgerows the daffodils are about to bloom!.
Jet washed, oil changed, air & oil filters replaced and the tractor can now sleep until the end of March (or hopefully later!)

After an exceptional 2015 for the vines in terms of both quality and volume I fear that another two or three weeks like this and then some really hard weather shall provide a rather contrary outlook for 2016
However, no sense in worrying about what you can't influence and besides Italy beckons with the wonderful distraction of guns, fishing and fine cuisine to distract a fellow

Was viewing the valley and hills at the range this morning. It could easily have been March not late December. Everywhere is just so green! Just witnessed the bridge at Tadcaster being washed away on this evenings news, spare a thought for the poor buggers hit by the weather in the wettest December on record.

Aye truly awful. I thank my lucky stars I am not in a flood zone. When it hoys it down in bucket loads my house is the only one in the street in a bad position. If the road is a torrent it pours over the pavement, down my drive and gathers as a substantial puddle sometimes under my bay window. Sometimes within an inch of the airbricks lower edge. I did see some clip on self sealing hatches in some catalogue so am going to fix those on the three bricks. Nowt like those poor people elsewhere clearly but it does make you think. There's been a reroofing going on up the close where some tiles peeled off a bungalow roof in the winds. I have the dry verges fitted up the gable and am going to have the dry ridge system fitted where they are bolted down through to the roof trusses.

You are right Geordie, I must confess that I do not follow the UK news with any regular frequency these days but, I note that the situation for so many seems dire with the repeated flooding.
Those impacted shall have both my thoughts and prayers.
