A while ago I acquired some off-cuts of various woods from a pal of mine who makes bass guitars for a living and I had some brass bar left over from another job and eventually came up with a use to include both. I was kindly donated some used centre-fire cases from Shropshire Dan and BBF and these are what I came up with. We live next door to Ladybower Resevoir which is fly fishing territory and I know a few fly fishermen locally and from the boozer and these have gone down fairly well. I'm going to try and see if I can get them into a couple of shops on a sale or return when I've got a few more made but just thought I'd see what the fly enthusiasts on here thought.
The brass end weight is drilled and tapped into the handle so will not fly off after time and I was struggling to tie the lanyard off so parted the .222 cases off in the lathe and set the lanyard into the epoxy filled case. I'll find a use for the ones you sent me too Ray don't worry.
I first made the three bigger ones then found some smaller pieces of wood in the bottom of the box so made a smaller one. Size wise the bigger ones are just over 9" and 1 1/4" diameter and the smaller one is just over 7" and 1" diameter.
Anyway hope you like.
