Duvets

What idiot invented duvets?
For years we were happy with sheets and blankets, maybe an eiderdown if it got really cold. Easy to make the bed, supremely comfortable and warm.
Suddenly we have the duvet!
A monstrosity that can't be folded with any sense, can't be washed in the average washing machine and in use is always too hot or too cold.
Add to that the duvet cover, a material bag with a small opening in one end that you have to stuff the duvet through before trying to unravel it flat! What a stupid design!
It must have been a woman because any man can see the simple solution, make the duvet cover with a zip on 3 sides, lay the cover on the bed, put the duvet on and zip around, simple isn't it?
Oh no, we get some infuriating bloody effort that defeats logic, sense or even practicality.
I like light bedclothes and room to move, Clare likes heavy stuff and about 65 tog whatever that means. I sweat with one side of a skinny duvet and she has about 5 layers of extra stuff on top and still moans she's cold and whinges because I've turned the heating off and opened the bedroom window. We had a healthy discussion about it and I put forward my solution. Go back to cotton sheets and blankets, fresh air and ice on the inside of the windows.
I bet I don't win this one!!
