The name "Poland" originates from the name of the tribe "Polonie" which means "People living in open fields".

I think every +16 child in Europe should be made to read `Timebomb` by Gerald Seymour, a shocking account of Sobibor
(bet you`ve never heard of it?)
and more importantly who policed the camps! most of the camps were outwith Germany & not policed by Germans, Nazi officers yes, but not the soldiers- some of whom`s cruelty was so bad- it`d to be kept in check by the Nazi officers
if that aint Damming------!
lucky for them, they could blame the Nazi`s after the war.
seriously guys, I`d never heard of it & without going into too much detail (it doesn`t have too- just peoples treatment is enough) they knew the place was such a timebomb for the Nazi`s -they flattened it to try to cover their behaviour before the war had ended, but `truth will out` & Poland does not come out clean in the wash!

Wastrel, I didn't quite get the gist there, are you saying that the Poles collaborated in the policing and running of the camps as well as fighting with us against the Nazis?

The German WW1 officer that recommended Hitler for the iron cross was Jewish. He was later arrested, then released by the SS once they discovered his identity.
