hi there..
I was using air arms field 5.51 in my rifle...this was on my night vision set-up...I was struggling in bad winds with them even up to 30 yards....now I've switched to JSB exact heavy these things are un real in the wind....so if any of u are struggling for bunnies in the wind give them try u won't be disappointed.....
What's everybody else's view on .177 heavies..
Cheers

Re: Heavy pellets.177
Not super heavys but I’ve been trying JSB 8.4's against Bisley LRG 7.6 in my TX hc. The LRG's out to 35 yards were better than the JSB's but out to 55 yards the JSB's took it in in a moderate side wind. In fairness the rifles only shooting at 775 fps (JSB's) and Iv found in the past the lighter pellets fly better the faster they go.

Re: Heavy pellets.177
Heavies can be the solution particularly for a PCP but most springers feel awful with a heavyweight in either calibre.
If you can be more accurate with them then that's the ones to use.

Re: Heavy pellets.177
just checked, my Li`s are 7.9 & Diablo Express 7.87 I`ve no idea if that`s heavy or not, but my LGU loves them, out 40m granted, but that`s my limit, not the rifles.

Re: Heavy pellets.177
i promised meself years ago that i wouldnt chop and change pellets, as the ones i use do slightly ragged 1 holers, bench rested @ 30yds (as long as i do my bit)
so accuracy wise theres no reason to change, but its a good point you make as smooth, domed, .177 pellets around 10 or so grains will cheat the wind a fair bit.
i tried a handfull of bisley magnums once, and they cheated the wind quite well, but wasnt prepared to trade in the trajectory of 8.44 grains.
just my quids worth mind

Re: Heavy pellets.177
bisley mags do good job out to 45 yards for me .
but aa field take some beating as an all round pellet.

Re: Heavy pellets.177
I tested JSB heavies in 22 and 177 v JSB Express in a crosswind.
Not scientific as wind speed can vary. But the express came out better.
I think because the higher velocity produced by the Express meant they spent less time exposed to the wind.
I do think it is good practice to find a pellet you are happy with and stick to it. Makes calculations a bit easier.

I use the h and n field target pellets 8.66gr they are a good hunting pellet and work well in carbine 410 Out to 50 yards . Nice consistent trajectory and plenty of impact for the rabbits.
Re: Heavy pellets.177
I've just graduated to the bis mags after trying them just to see what they were like. I've predominantly used fields and been very happy with their perfomance at all reasonable hunting distance but in my r10 the bisleys seem to have closed up the groupings by about 25% at any range and personally I don't think you can argue with those results
The flip size is that the trajectory is noticeably more "loopy" but if you know your aim points and ranges (I tend to use an lrf which helps) then I'll take the better consistency any day. At night I'll stick with my 8.4g fields and their flatter trajectory in my s410 due the difficulties of ranging at night. In short if heavy pellets give you the consistency you need in the circumstances in which you shoot then go with them, if not try a different pellet. As always the only consideration is that you use what ever you can comfortably hit the off switch at the ranges you shoot out to

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool
