Air Arms Smooth Twist.

Thu Apr 23, 2015 4:12 pm

Given the very high acclaim these barrels got when they were first mooted should Air Arms have fitted them to their rifles.

I suspect they were able to test them out so if they're so good why didn't AA use them ?

Hi Julian,
It appears almost impossible to find out.

I would have thought that AA had them on test but nothing seemed to come of it. I understand that "Conformal" rifling is not new and it's the way it's formed that is novel.
Perhaps they were tried and rejected as not being good enough.

More market in the small bore sector. The market shooting 22lr is massive. .177 didnt do well in the tests

I thought the smooth twist barrel was a Ben Taylor patent ... so I was led to believe in a Terry Doe publication that I found in a public toilet once .... among other magazines.
I soon lost interest so I read Shaven Ravers instead

Yes, but we don't have a "Expert" who knows nothing on here

Thought someone may know why AA didn't take it up. Been around for many a long year and ignored mainly. A different way of doing it I don't think would change much.

by far the best gun I ever shot was a rapid 17/17 FT with the Anschutz barrel.it made my air wolf look like a BB gun.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless.
