I'm confused! I thought the barrel lengths for the TX200 HC & ProSport were 9.5". However, the AA website says 13" & 15" respectively (from breech end of barrel to end of muzzle). Presumably, this includes the plenum insert on the TX200 HC and baffles on the ProSport? Surely then, that's not the "barrel length".

Tha AA website used to say the barrel length on the TXHC and Prosport was 9.5" but this was recently changed to "Unit" length.

There are size requirements that have to be met in Section 5 of the Firearms act and one criteria is barrel length has to be over 30cm. If the barrel length is under 30cm as long as the rifle is not classed as "Specially dangerous" ie not capable of more than 12FPE you are O.K. If it does go over then if becomes a Section 5 prohibited weapon. This particular offence carries a mandatory 5 year sentence.

The Home Office says that no form of barrel add-ons can count towards length.
There have been other manufacturers who have made similar short barreled air rifles.

I'm sure that's all very well, but. Although as part of the OEM's product they are not technically "add-ons", the plenum insert and baffles are not part of the "barrel". Whatever way it's specified, the barrel itself is still 241mm (9.5") long, and not 330mm (13") or 380mm (15"). Or, am I just being picky?

Sorry, I thought that's what I said.

"The Home Office says that no form of barrel add-ons can count towards length."

All that counts as far as the legislation is concerned is the actual barrel ie. from breech to crown.

Thanks for your input have decided to have a look for a used prosport and if nothing around it will be a new TX200 full length, i just cant bring myself to spend the extra on a new prosport, oh and the fact that if the missus found out i had spent that much on another gun i would probably end up carrying it in a very uncomfortable place

Yes, you're absolutely correct. What concerns me though (if I've understood things correctly), is that AA are quoting a barrel length that could still get the user into hot, if not very hot water. Breech to end of muzzle and breech to crown are quite different in the case of the TX200 HC & ProSport.

Unfortunately AA are telling porkies.
Originally the website technical specs listed all the rifles together and both the TXHC and PS were listed as having 9.5" barrels.

It was pointed out to AA that if in fact either the TXHC or PS went over power they would become S5. Instead of warning their customers they altered the "Specs" to "Unit length" from barrel length.
This makes absolutely no difference. With the new "Specs layout" they are still talking barrel length but saying it means from breech to end of muzzle. Weasel words as to me the muzzle is where the crown is and that on the TXHC and PS is 9.5" from the breech.

It's no wonder that I think our airgun industry treats it's customers as cash cows and mugs.

I would be delighted to hear AA's excuses for the misinformation they give.

Thanks for the confirmation Ray,

Don't you think though, AA might have some obligation to all or their loyal customers to ensure they stay within the law?

Silly me, after all money speaks louder than morality!!!
