Under lever sling ...

Thu Apr 16, 2015 3:20 pm

Is there a shoulder strap that would fit onto an under lever rifle ???

Any rifle sling should do.

What you will need is a clamp for the underlever.

I had one of these on my old TX200, worked a treat. Clamp goes on the underlever (close to the stock as possible while being able to clear it while cocking), and you need to drill the butt on the stock for a sling stud. Job done and helps massively if you are harrying it constantly while hunting ;)

I seem to remember, someone on this forum fitted the front sling swivel to the cocking arm on a TX with a home made pin & clevis arrangement.

If you have the facilities, or know someone that has, it seemed a much better idea than clamping something to the underlever with the possibility of damaging the blueing.

I used to have the sling fitted on the underlever using a clamp with a copper spacer which I custom fitted as the clamp I had would not secure without a spacer.
I initially tried insulation tape etc etc, but the clamp ring still slipped.
The copper spacer made the clamp secure.
(first pic shows the old clamp & spacer in place as well as the new bit)
But.... it didn't make ME feel secure! It always struck me that when the gun was cocked (in particular) if the underlever should pull loose of the ball detent it is held in place with, the gun and glass could take a heavy hit.
So I had quickly noted that fitting a sling mount to the cocking link would entirely prevent this from happening.
So I took a little bit of aluminium bronze & a 4(+)mm roll pin of hardened steel, and hand cut and filed a piece to allow this to be done.

I had to closely examine & measure the swing & clearance needed, but once I had the idea right, it only took around 45 minutes to make the piece & custom fit it to the link.
I then drilled the cocking link, tapped in the roll pin, cut it neat, and after a twenty secong cocking slot modification using a mini drum sander on my Dremel, the job, as they say, was a goodun.

Very easy to make and absolutely no chance of the sling pulling the UL loose.
Last pic shows the stock cocking slot mod.

That system should have a commercial application.

It's as good, if not better than the underlever clamp.
