as a back up would you go for a hill's pump or a fx pump.
Re: stirrup pump
Personally, I'd go for an Hw80 or a 95 as a backup

Re: stirrup pump
Hills is pretty much the "industry standard", but things have certainly changed since my Hills MkIII - which I find perfectly adequate on an S400. I believe the latest offerings are more tailored to achieving pressures above the 200 bar required for guns like ours. Current models are 3 or 4 stage pumps, which if I understand correctly will give lower flow rate but higher pressure.
Many people are quite happily using generic Chinese ebay offerings, though there does seem to a higher failure rate with these. So Hills or Fx can both be considered as premium products'

Re: stirrup pump
i ended up getting a hills mk4 with dry pack at £162.95,not a bad price as the manufacture want's £169.99, it look's like i had the last one, on the site i ordered it from they are currently unavailable, however there are 2, i guess from another seller on the same site for £235.99,the mk4 is so much easier to use than the mk3, it feel's like it's easier on the download stroke.i need to get my 2 cylinder's tested & filled, not in no hurry though.if your looking at getting a pump i highly recommend the hill's mk4.

hills pump with dry pack.
Re: stirrup pump
The only dry pack that's any good is a high-pressure one on the outlet. I'm not going to argue the toss... just look up dew point tables. With a pack on the inlet water will still condense in the pump, unless you go to the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica or (maybe) the Atacama Desert.
No strong preference for either pump.
