Hey thanks to who ever got the forum back up again, I can get back into learning about AAs as much as possible.

Q Does anyone know what is the woodstain / colour / finish AA uses on the S410 Beech stock please?. I'm reprofile my stock and lightening it to make it better for carrying around all day so I've remove the cheel piece and need to refinish the area.

You will be very hard pushed to get anything like a match.

Your best bet would be to completely remove the original finish and refinish with whatever you wish.

I refinished an old BSA stock recently and started by attempting to strip the original finish with Nitromors purchased at a well known diy chain. After an hour smothered in the stuff it barely even marked the surface,I took the resultant mess to a french polisher/cabinet maker friend.John turned to his brother, grinned and dipped a piece of wire wool in the cauldren they had on the work bench,it took about ten minutes to arrive at bare wood.
"What colour was it?" I asked, "Walnut kid" was the reply, at which point he dipped a piece of clean cloth in another container and wiped the stock from one end to the other. It now looks as if it's just left the factory in the seventies,I'd suggest you consult someone with similar expertise.

Iv stripped 1 or 2 stocks over the years but iv never been happy with the results as I could never get depth of colour or finish I wanted. In future I will be saving up to have them dipped at Hydro graphics or Aquagraphics.

Saw a gent at Cloybank this weekend that had sent his stock away to a tattoo artist - the stock had been painted up with a beautiful combination of brown leaves and skulls. It just worked IMHO

I'm also interested in this. I recently had an adjustable cheek piece fitted and the cut part now resembles The One With Ross' Teeth.

I have a brand new Walnut TX200. Should I seal the stock? I read Royal London oil is good.
http://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/cat ... /42975.htm. I have lots of experence with tru-oil. I want to protect the finish. I don't want to make it shiney

I once saw a beautiful BSA beech stock with a light stain. He told me what stain it was.....tea bag. I kid you not he said "Just make sure it quality stuff and well stewed".

I put eight coats of Royal London oil on the stock. Rubbing it in with ultra fine sanding pads. The finish sheens and shimmers changing with the light. Really a beautiful piece of wood. Next I will let this cure for a couple weeks. Then sand it smooth again and use tru-oil to fill the pours and give it a glass like look.
