What would you choose

Given that you have several permissions over which to shoot mixed quarry( ie rabbit, grey squirrel and wood pigeon) what would you consider the best suited for the job:-
.22cal or .177 cal
Long or short barrel
Assuming the max target distance of 40/45yards
Also assuming the rifle would be a pcp and would have a quality telescopic sight

Up to 25/30 yds happy to use either calibre, pushing out to 45/50 yds.177 and prefer a carbine, short rifles are easier to handle and a lot more manoeuvrable. Just my opinion, others might think differently 8-)

look you now, calm down boyo isnt it, i only mentioned it because, as good a gun as the harrier is, its not in the same league as a s400 wasnt it now.
i've been saying since 2005 that pound for pound the s400 has no equals 8-)
anyway mate hows things down your neck o' the woods, good i hope ?

I use .177 except for ratting at short range where I'd use .22. For long-range sniping I prefer the S400 classic but have to agree with Roger, the .177 carbine is the best compromise and much better for stalking or for shooting squirrels when you often need the manoeuvrability.
