i dial for elevation. my sport is FT.
I bet your scope costs more than my whole shooting setup haha.
And for what?
Most ft shooters are gear tarts, fashion over purpose.
I'm using an old Hawke Varmint sf on 10x mag for 80 yard kills consistently, think about that next time your at an ft comp seeing 3000 pound scopes.
wow what's all this about ? i just responded to a post. Why should i think about your setup at my next comp? great, i am impressed. Gear tarts! i shoot a springer with a secondhand scope, if thats a gear tart so what! that's my thing. Maybe you have some kind of inferiority complex that you need to boast of your consistent long range kills with minimal equipment. Empty vessels and noise.
I wasn't suggesting you're a gear tart at all just most of them are. As for the inferiority complex I have non of that, just a guy who's spend the best part of 20 years perfecting my shooting and not falling into the latest manufactures fad.
Even a top of the range scope/rifle won't make anyone a better shooter.
Better glass might able someone to see the pubic hairs on a wasp but it's practice that will hit the wasp that's all.
In the end of the day it's a consistent blast of Air which drives a pellet down a barrel.
Where that barrel points is all behind the person pointing it.

Took a magpie last night at 80 yards, dialled in 16 moa and dropped like a sack of potatoes.
Dialling does work, even with non regulated rifles.
Just have to operate strictly within the sweet spot and find using a chrono.
Mines pretty low at 155 bar using the mpr ft due to the way I've balanced it and gives me 30 really consistent shots before filling again to 155.
Thought we couldn't / not supposed to shoot magpies unless you applied for a licence

I wouldn't recommend trying to kill anything humanely at 80 yards with an air rifle anyway.

There's still plenty of power left at 80 yards to penetrate a birds thin skull Peter with an accurate shot placement.

Or with a wind change you could sneck off its beak and it would die slowly.

You could yes but that goes with hunting at all ranges. This is where practice and reading wind is a must.

Not many FT champs could hit 100% of 25mm kill zones at 80 yards whereas most competent hunters could do it 100% at 30 yards. Which means a good proportion of 80 yard shots would be misses or woundings. If you always walk the 80 yards to check then that’s fine.
Even though I don’t shoot vermin I have no problem with humane vermin control but I don’t think 80 yards is it.
Just my opinion. I’m out of the discussion now.

Maybe I should try FT then as I doubt many could do this either in those conditions.
It's an old video but I've had 9 years more practice since then ;)

Not wanting to hijack this thread but I only shoot vermin and regularly take rabbits, and when it was allowed crows, magpies etc at 50 yards. I know I can and I am confident enough to take these shots. Rats are a different ball game for me - 20 yards average ha ha. I know my limits.
I also like stalking, so a lot of rabbits I take, are down to 20 yards.
You must know you can and are confident enough to take 80 yard shots. However I personally wouldn't take an 80 yard shot. What is your kill ratio at these ranges.
I think if anyone is confident and capable of hitting the target at that distance then crack on and good shooting.
Kevin
