This was the original post before it all went nuts, I'll ask this again, and see what people's thoughts are. RogRoger5 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 4:33 pmJust an ask, was talking to somebody who does a bit of competition 12ftlb target shooting, they said that they fill their S400 to 190bar, 1st shot 777fps I asked them what they reckoned it would be doing at about 150bar i.e. Would it still be on the safe side of 12ftlb or over, what do people on here reckon?
Re: 190 bar fill
Yes mate thats how aa set them straight from the factory, dont worry to much about it, or the guy can take it back to the shop for a reduction in power, problem solved. But hey what do i know?
Re: 190 bar fill
Obviously not as much as you think you know, from. 190bar fill you would be lucky to get 10ftlb, and my understanding is that A/A test them at about 150bar this is to keep them below 12ftlb, and I'm certainly not worried , as I'm more then capable of sorting any problems with A/A rifles, that doesn't mean that I know everything, and I'm more then happy to learn from people who know more than me, not meaning to be rude, but I doubt that that's you. Re: 190 bar fill
Roger, you may remember me telling you my S400f Classic went back to AA twice under warranty with power variation - cause finally identified when the pot fell off. During this saga I had several discussions (4, I think) with AA technical. Bear in mind I was focused on the abnormal behaviour and I only had two full strings of normal data before the power started shifting. Had I known what I know now, I might have asked more searching questions.
I was told all S400s are checked and would not be released if shooting outside a range 760 -790fps with AADF - that's not below 760fps at 190bar, and below 790fps at max. I'm not clear if they actually test for maximum or if this is inferred from the starting level and knowledge of the curve. The discussions were 2 years ago so I can't remember the exact details but, as I recall, the typical setting was 770fps start. My own tests gave 3-shot average 760 (190 bar) to 780fps max, highest individual shot 784fps. The test report from AA when repaired was 10 shots, 772-776fps no pressure recorded. I was told this was from normal fill but from my results I think they must fill to about 170bar to test, which is where my 3-shot average hit 770fps.
So, if you shift my curve up by 17fps to 777fps at 190bar, the 3-shot average at 140bar would be 797fps with maximum individual shot 801fps. What I can tell you for sure is the gun in question will be over 12ft lb with JSB Heavy.

Re: 190 bar fill
Cheers Tony, it would have been good of them to let you know what bar that was at, as I said, I only fill to 165/170 and on my new to me TDR that's 777fps 11.24ftlb and am easily getting 60+shots down to 100bar and no problems hitting 50yd spinners at 100bar, I'm more than happy with that, not used on the coneys yet, but don't see a problem. Re: 190 bar fill
I think the answer to us as sub 12ftlbs air gunners is when you buy a new or second hand unregulated aa rifle and you think that say a .177 running at 780fps from new at 160bar ish is going to be over power then tell the gun smith about your concerns and he/she will lower the power to stay well within the laws.
