S410E question

Mon Jan 14, 2019 6:26 pm

Hey there,
New to the forum.
I have an old S410E that I'm doing some work on. Fixing leaks and such.
I'll probably have more questions but for now this is what's on my mind.
When I assemble the gun and mount my scope I find that I have to adjust it to the side until I'm almost out of adjustment.
My question is how do others approach this? I'd like to end up with my scope as near centered as I can.
thx,
Jim

Not to sure what your asking, are you running out of windage on your scope, or are you talking about a mount problem

Swap one or both mounts round is one option.
Adjust the figure of 8 mount to ensure or persuade the barrel straight is another.

Ok, as per the 2 replies above.
Yes, I need to adjust the figure of 8 clamp to line up the barrel.
I guess I was just asking how other guys get that accomplished with any degree of precision.
When I did it, I simply looked from above and did it by "eyeball".
I think this time I might make a bar to fit in the scope rings and long enough to see if it's lined up with the gun before I put the scope on. Then I'll attack the barrel issue.
hehe, before all of that happens I have leaks to fix.
thx,
Jim

If you slacken the grub screws on the barrel band it normally sorts itself, just make sure the filler cover is loose when you do it

First I check the scope is ok - optics not misaligned and the tube is straight. An easy way is to centralize the reticle mechanically by counting turret rotations then rotate the scope in mounts or suitable support to see if the cross hairs hold a target. If the reticle needs adjusting by more than 10% of the total range something is definitely misaligned. Check at different mag and AO adjustments to check these elements are correctly aligned.

If the scope passes this test I move on to barrel/scope alignment. Switching position of 2-piece mounts is the first option, or trying different mounts. If more adjustment is needed you could use windage adjustable mounts.

You could make a couple of pairs of blocks by working out difference in barrel and cylinder diameters /2
