FAC rated air rifle.

Thu Jan 10, 2019 7:57 pm

Thinking of applying for an FAC. Am I right in thinking that the trajectory of a .22 FAC rated air rifle is more flatter, being similar to a .177 sub 12 ft lbs rifle. I understand at the same distance a .22 would hit harder, but is there really an other benefit to getting one. Is there anything I need to consider...............Thoughts please would be nice.

I sub sonic .22 lr rimfire a better bet I would think. Cheep to buy, quiet moderated, ammo cheep too. Easier to sell on than a FAC air as the FAC air market will be smaller.

I have FAC .22 I run it at 27 ft/lb ,
zero at 45 yards .
but I use sub 12 more round barns fac is
great for long range rabbits 70 yards .
chap to buy but hard to sell .
so .22lr maybe better bet .
mine will adjust from 44 to 12 ish .

.22 FAC trajectory over 20-24ft lb (depending on pellet weight) will be flatter than .177 at 12 ft lb . Maximum hunting range for either is a matter of personal choice but I'd be looking for no more than 20 yards extra range at 30-36ft lb. If you want more, I think you'd be better with .22lr as others have suggested.

The s410 extra will give you the extra distance at full fac power and then able to be turned down low for roof and barn work.

Thanks for all the replies. Strangely enough my local FEO has suggested a rimfire in .22. In most of my permissions most of my vermin is perched in or climbing up trees. These pests are be better suited to the sub 12 ft PCP's I already have. The piece of land where I could use the rimfire is quite small, only about 4 acres. I don't know if this would be too small for such a rimfire to permitted by the police. The landowner is my son=in=law and he has no objections.

22lr would require a substantial area to shoot to have one on ticket.
Once on ticket you would only be allowed to shoot on that land until they issue it open.

I have permission on what must be close to about 100 acres of open farmland to use my PCP's, but since it is so open getting close to rabbits etc is very difficult, therefore I seldom shoot the PCP's on it, apart from along the hedge rows. A rimfire in this open land would be better suited. I was going to ask the farmer if he minded me using a rimfire on his land.

I have asked the farmer if it is OK to use an FAC PCP or .22 LR Rimfire. He has said yes. :D
