You shouldn't really do that with a springer

Dont dry fire a springer mate the piston hits the bottom of the compression tube hard. With a pellet in the barrel it will be quieter and in the field it will seem very quiet from 10 yards away

Dave, you say it sounded loud on dry firing as 'theres no insert or plenum'
Your version is the full length, not the hunter carbine (HC) version
The MkIII's have the shroud extended past the barrel end and plastic baffles inside there, so it does actually have a fitted moderator.
I have a MkIII as well, and to be honest, I have never had a complaint about it being loud to shoot. Certainly not from any rabbits, squirrels or pigeons anyway.
I did do a little experiment a few years ago and got someone to fire the gun past me whilst I sat behind a big tree. At anything over about 15-20 metres they are almost soundless.

Thanks for that duncan, I've had it out and put it through the chrony , tried zeroing it in with a centre point scope and had flyers every where. Tried few different brands of pellets with none being very good. At the moment not very impressed with it at all. Don't like the bear trap mechanism I hate it, just couldn't get in a routine with it. Considering selling gun for another PCP.
