Home made alloy stock S400 precision under £50

Sun Jun 03, 2018 5:56 pm

https://youtu.be/MkHyr8NhV7c

Finished! If you have 5 minutes to spare it might be of interest.
The 10 metre S400 does not have a gauge dog-leg so it makes stock design a lot easier!
Kept it simple and cheap.

Looks great Peter, a fine job indeed, well done. 8-)

Youtube only allow a certain number of music tracks unless you pay royalties. It's Blue Danube by one of the Strausses.

Total weight less sights is 3.75 Kg which is about 0.6 Kg heavier than factory. I couldnt get as many tyre weights inside the rear end as I wanted so the additional muzzle weights are back off. ISSF allows 5.5kg
I weighed the bag of materials about 1.5kg but I wont know the finished stock weight til I take it apart again.
I suspect a hole for a gauge and dogleg might be cut through for a standard S400 action (inside dimension of channel is 25mm) but it might weaken it.
I'm using the new ISSF 2017 dimension of barrel centreline to hamster base up to 120mm.

It was easier than I expected though I got bored of tapping threads by the end. The alloy is soft and easy to work with hand tools but you can't do short cuts with standard taps (I tried and busted one in a bad place) . I hope the better shape for 10m will help my lousy 4th division shooting.
