Best pellets for TX200HC - 5.51 or 5.52

Sat Mar 14, 2015 1:29 pm

My apologies if this has been raised before - having just bought a TX200HC not sure which of the above Air Arms .22 pellets would be best for either ratting or targets ?

Don't really want to by a 500 tin of each to try & find out unless general opinion is another make (or weight) pellet is better.

Am very pleased with this air rifle but still to master setting the pellet into the breech - not as easy as a break barrel, any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Michael
Why be awkward, when with a bit of effort you can be really impossible!

It depends which size suits YOUR barrel the best, this is why you get various head sizes in pellets..

I would buy both sizes and set a target up at a comfortable distance to see which group the best in your gun..

If you want optimum accuracy you have to try many different types of pellet, so I think it is going to be a bit of trial and error bud ;)

There probably wont be a massive amount in it so doubt you'd be wasting your money.

I'm just amazed that people think that pellets can be manufactured to a tolerance less than .01mm

They won't even be round to that.
Good "Marketing" ploy though, just think of all the extra pellets people are buying

The problem is Ray I've tried so many pellets of different batches and headsizes. The one consistent fact is that no matter what batch the best AA Fields in my Prosport have always been labelled 4.52. The few times I've retried 4.51 have never been successful so I stick with what I perceive to be right.
Commonsense says it isn't right but I'm not going to argue with ny own rifle. ;)

Hi Timmy,

To manufacture to those sizes you would have to size to less than .01mm and believe me unless you have a temperature controlled "Gauge room" you would not even be able to measure to that.
The claimed sizes are ridiculous and to put thing into perspective a pellet will be the most accurate component of an air rifle. This in a soft metal.

JSB's will vary around 10% in weight and they want people to believe they can manufacture to less than .01mm. They then put 500 in a tin  (the same for other manufacturers)

Like I said, they wont even be round.

All the target shooters go off dies and not size.
.01mm is one quarter of one thousandth of one inch.

Try JSB Express. They come in 5.52 and weigh 14:35 grns giving a flatter trajectory. My S400 does very well with them equalling the accuracy of AAFs. If you want to go lighter still try the JSB RS which are 13:45 grns. Falcon Accuracy Plus are re-badged JSB RSs and are slightly cheaper. I get my JSB pellets from Intershoot. You might find the lighter pellets give you less recoil in the TX. Of the three pellets I like the Express and use them for light sporting target shooting which is 20 yards standing unsupported.

For my tx i tryed both and my gun prefered the airarms field in 5.52 however that means nothing because it isnall down to your guns barrel, all barrels are diffrent. If in doubt, it might be best to get a sample pack from ebay etc so you can try groups with each pellets to find the best for your guns barrel, all barrels are diffrent.

Pellets arent deliberatly sized, they are however sold by die size's,as the pellets are made the dies wear and are or the dies were machined in a bigger size, its nice the pellet manufacturers pass on the sizings as 0.01mm can make a differance,as to what pellet your barrel likes well an AA field in a .51 size is where i'd start
on a side note timmytrees prosport barrel requires a regular clean where as my prosport never needs cleaning, two .177 prosports that behave differantly

Exactly my assumption of the pellet saga
