Hi all,
Bought a walnut stock from someone on another forum and decided to fit it on my .22 carbine. Went to the farm on Saturday and zeroed at 25 yards. For a change I was really comfortable lying in the grass shooting off a bipod and just for once took my time for each shot. This resulted in the following 5 shot grouping:-
I was very, very pleased with that group! Moved the target out to 30 yards just to see what the drop was and shot this 3 shot group:-
I was on a roll but surprised at how small the drop was (10mm). hmmm. Moved the target out another 5 yards to 35 yards. This 4 shot group is the result:-
This is probably about as good as I get. I would have extended the range further but that was all the chance I got as I needed to help with farm duties. Again though surprised about the drop of only 25mm.
When I got home I compared this data with both Chairgun's and Strelok's calculated drop. At 35 yards both seemed to suggest that a 40mm drop would be expected. When I tried to put the data into Chairgun to calculate a new BC value for the pellet it basically said my data was wrong. The range distances are accurate as they are tape measured and staked with wooden stakes every 5 yards. My rifle is not overpowered ... I chrono'd it at 573fps (11.66 ft.lbs) before the test and it read the same after the test (in fact the shooting was carried out right at the top of the power curve in where I get 30 shots in a 4fps window). Pellets are AADF in .22 straight from the tin.
When I get chance I shall repeat my experiment but in the meantime what do others get the drop to be at say 35 yards? Are AADFs super slick as they seem to follow a fairly flat trajectory? Overall though very impressed by my .22's accuracy.

Re: My best shooting and queston!
good grouping there mark I get .5 mildot drop at 35 yards with AADF.
At 40 1 mildot
At 45 2 mildot .
using 10 mag on mtc mamba .
using both r 10 and mk 4
at 11.5 ftlb .

Nice groups!
I can't comment on the drop because I only use .177 zeroed at 35 yards but AADF are slick pellets, I think they are made of a softer compound than any other pellets and the thin skirts seal better into the rifling so they often produce higher velocity as well.

Re: My best shooting and queston!
Thanks gents. I'm off to the farm all day today so will do some more tests and compare mildots later. Mechanical disasters aside (seized brakes on small Fergie last time) hoping to get a few shots in.

Great result there, Mark!!! I put it down to the Stock + Pellets + Regulator and of course ..... the all important "nut behind the butt"
Now, do you have a legitimate excuse for not turning up to the AAOC Meet in a couple of weeks and showing us all this masterpiece you have created?
I know where you live .... and you could walk it!

Re: My best shooting and question!
Hi Raj,
Would love to come to the meet but as my father-in-law's funeral is on the fourth I need to be at home to be with the wife who has lost both parents now. Been a crap year so far with the additional loss of our Granddaughter and a close auntie. I will make it eventually though! As an aside the rifle responsible for the above was my .22 carbine ... the only AA gun not regulated in the collection. Been squirrelling lately and I seem to gravitate to .22 for those little buggers. Anyway good luck at the meet. Hope you get decent weather for it.
