Air Arms were used 507 times.(top usage)
FX was used 1 time. Which is less than specialist rifles like SCR, ISP and Whiscombe.

I think they are O.K. rifles but just too expensive for what they are. I remember the FX Axors which were O.K. but nothing special. Webley also made them under licence. I think if your going to pay £1000 plus for an air rifle there are some very good ones out there, especially second hand.

The FX "pump ups" are interesting but not at the price.

on reflection Ray, I`d take you to task on this point, admittedly I`ve no experience of target shooting to back my point, but I`ll make it anyway,
Giles filmed the `Airguns of Arizona shoot` -some of the best `shots` UK has to offer were there, I assume the USA sent some of their best too, as I said, Ted knows his way around an airgun & is mentioned in the winners tally!
at the final tally, the scoresheet was included in the film, there wasn`t an AA gun mentioned once! there were a few FX`s though!
cost too, is subjective, I can`t afford an FX, or an ultimate sporter or any Daystate (sniff) & I don`t like buying 2nd hand where possible, that`s why I own an S200 & an LGU.
but back to my point, when the big hitters got down to business, AA wasn`t mentioned, FX was!

I'd be interested in just the Best shots the U.K has to offer are
Club mates are two double UKAHFT Champions and I know most, if not all the other "best shots". Doubt if any of the FT lads were there as they would not be shooting against FAC level rifles but sub 12FPE.
The Brit FT shooters seem to do O.K. in the Worlds FT shoots. All the above and not an FX in sight.
Have you got a link to this Piles (sorry Giles) epic ?

Thanks for that.

Again I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Not a single current top U.K. shooter there.
FAC Benchrest at 75 yds and Tony Belas comes 7th. Doesn't do anything at National UKAHFT except fail the chrono

It was just a "Jolly Boy's "outing. Even Piles came 17th.
Sorry Wastrel but none of those would come in the "also ran's".

The Americans shoot at FAC levels and they aren't satisfied with 30 ft/lbs like some FAC shooter are over here
What reason would an American shooter have for owning an Air Arms?
They need large capacity cylinders, the reason they love the Bobcat so much, or a buddy bottle
If you watch the videos they do about air rifles you will notice that most buddy bottle guns have 500cc bottles

Not saying nobody shoots AA at FAC levels over there but they clearly aren't as popular

For Benchrest some shoot with their air cylinder connected to their rifle.
They can use any regulated PCP doing it that way and can have 12ltrs to go at.

Tony Belas. Does not rank as a top U.K. shooter. Average at best.
Terry Doe. Used to be good 30 years ago with a springer. Doesn't shoot competitively today.
Ross Marshal. Sorry, never heard of him.
Nick jenkinson. Was very good some years ago but no longer shoots competitively (AFAIK)
Jim Chapman ?

I just recently sold my FX T12 whisper. It was in a walnut TH stock, sixteen shot clockwork mag in .177

It was only 2.7Kg (unscoped) and was so easy to use, accurate and quiet.
I serviced it all myself and would say the only potential drawback to it was the alloy everything apart from the barrel, valve pins and a few other wee parts. That's what made it so light.
It would have been very vey easy to screw it if you didn't use top flight tools on it or were ham fisted.
I am used to working on fine grade pneumatics having faffed about with BA kit and dive kit all my working life, so it wasn't a problem.
Frederick Axellson is one hell of a designer, but I think his guns can be a little temperamental. If you get a good one, fine, but I have seen and heard a fair bit about reg issues etc.

The difference between my Ultimate Sporter & the FX?

My FX wasn't even in the same league build wise. The AA is solid.

I do like the ideas and looks of some of the new (FX) stuff, but it is pricey.
