...as title, I've done this before by using oven cleaner, it does work but doesn't give the finish I need. So I'm thinking blasting. So what's the answer ? Bead, sand, glass ? I'm after a matte finish . Thanks.

I would use Caustic Soda in solution first til the colour is gone then low pressure fine sand or very fine glass if you want matt. Put screws in the threads. You might want to file chamfer any sharp edges first to avoid crinkly edges. It may come out shades of grey.

Far easier too use caustic soda....a welsh virgin is almost impossible too find

Caustic soda is oven cleaner isn't it? To avoid possible pitting and surface breakdown I would use oil and wet and dry abrasive paper, then matt them as planned above.

On a safety note.
Never add water too the soda,always add soda too the water.
Wear goggles you can buy new mounts you cant buy new eyes
Do not breathe in the fumes thats given off
I cant remember the mix ratio but im sure you will find it on google
Do not leave the mounts in the solution for longer than 20 min without checking them and do not leave them in the solution over night as it will eat into the mounts

Yes.

caustic soda granules are much more precise in mixing to a known srength. Oven cleaners are not all Caustic Soda. They can be poncy sustainable citrus or detergent based.

I would start at one level desert spoon of granules per litre. See how it goes.

....not 'blasting' then I take it ?
