The plastic pellets are indestructible, they are actually polyethylene and are used in plastic sheet manufacture. They are fed into a heater and then blown/extruded into the bags that virtually everything comes wrapped in. If you can get some they will last forever.

I have put rice in them for now, bit heavy though, SWMBO found a bag of polystyrene balls for bean bags at Dunhelm, might also mix some of them in 8-)

No, as one gets older those urgent nocturnal (or even daytime) visits to the throne can become a challenge, a few strategically placed trays of cat litter sounds like a good idea, especially in the larger house!.

I'll second that. I've been using polystyrene beads in my shooting cushion for years, but they tend to compress over time, leaving the cushion rather flat. I'm going to try plastic pellets next time. A bit heavier maybe, but I'll give it a go. Maybe even try a combination of both.
