SMK XS 19, i know but bear with me

Mon Mar 02, 2015 8:24 pm

Ive fancied a .22 or .25 soley for ratting and also to tinker with, ive been looking but i dont want to spend much becouse owning a prosport already i know iam going to be disapointed with it, theres a chap at work selling his with a 4x 32 scope for 65 pounds, he's owned it from new probably 2 years and iam interested as a project gun to tune and try a bit of stock alterations
its only got to shoot straight to 15 yards for ratting, are they worth a punt, i do know theres a healthy following for them

I had one of these,if you strip clean polish, and lube it correctly it will perform better than you think, and will give good groups at 35 yards ,I also fitted a Welsh willy trigger kit, there not as bad as people make out,if you put a little effort into it,enjoyed my time with it,

they are only 8-10 fpe and very cheap , save your money and buy your self a second hand hw80 hw95 ,

i have wasted loads of money on cheap rifles over the years ,
now i would only buy the top end rifles , new or second hand you will always get most of your money back when you come to sell and you know you will not be disappointed with any of the top end springers in your collection,

ive had a few cheap rifles they are not worth the space they take up in the gun cabinet , you will end up spending loads on them and still be disappointed .

if you look at my rifle list ( under this post ) i am proud to own all of my rifles ,
there is one more i will get .......... can any one guess what it is ??????
my stock is missing one top springer well it could be two but not too keen on the hw97 at the moment ,

Trouble is most of us can only afford to have one airgun, but hey I've had to work hard for everything in life,I don't earn much so ,that said you can only shoot one at a time can't you,

yes i do under stand , but i do not drink very often and give up the fags ( but on eletric ones , cheap ) and most of my rifles i have traded up to , all i am saying buy some thing that if you get fed up with you can sell or trade in on another rifle and get a good price for,
for another £30 -£50 you could get a better second hand rifle that will hold its value better or as things are it may go up in value,

thanks for that, it would of took me longer if i had kept buying cheap rifles like i did do. all i ended up doing was trying to get my money back on them after i spent on them then lost on them, so i told my self only top rifles , and saved / swapped / traded
to get to were i am now ,
i have two tx200 and when i decide witch one i will keep the other will be sold or traded to get a air arms pro sport .

after your tx200 you know the smk will disappoint you, and like you said, you can only shoot one rifle at a time ,

BUT IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE YOU ARE STARTING A COLLECTION ,( thats what happens when you get in to shooting,) so make sure its a collection you are proud of, good on you,

Go on get it , ok they are not in the same leauge at the HW's or the AA's or even the BSA's but once stripped and polished up they are great ratting guns.
I bought a second hand one a few years ago and it was a right piece of crud, rusty and scratched , and on the chrono it was all over the place .
It would start up in the 11+ ftlbs and after a dozen shots was down in the 9 ftlbs, dieseling like crazy and the recoil would kill a scope , now i am no tuner
but once i had done the rounds on u tube looking at the strip down vid's etc i tackled mine , and it was easy but what i did find was the whole gun was filled with grease,
to the point wher i could hardly make out the spring coils.
So the lot was washed and cleaned/polished and put back together along with a couple of washers to put some tension on the springas it was really slack. Ok it was not
the best gun in the world , but it was a vast improvement on what it was before i had a go, and over a few months and plenty of pellets it was producing 10.6-10.8ftlbs
more than enough for rats at 25yards, and it was prety accurate too.
Ok i dont have it any more but the guy who has it still shoots it reguarly and is still bagging them rats .

I bought an SMK 19 to just get back into a bit of shooting. Welsh Willy did his bit and it really was a great workhorse. It actually went of to one of the Scottish Islands when I decided to sell and was well liked there. Yes, I've got some expensive rifles because I could afford to buy them and got a bit more serious; however, don't be afraid of owning one of the cheaper ones.
