Impartial views please

Mon May 16, 2016 8:01 pm

Hi all
Whilst visiting our esteemed colleague "Eboswan" for a chat and a cuppa (Thanks for the invite mate) and having a good grope of his tx200, while i was there. I have been considering getting 1 of my own, in 177 flavour.
First however I would like your impartial views on the merits, if any, of these guns over my current S410 classic in .22. Are they any better, lighter or any more accurate etc.
If you could only have 1 which would it be.
Please dont think this as a .177 v .22 query.
Cheers
Kevin

All springers are more difficult to be consistently accurate with.
Most require you to learn the technique required, you must get that right or you will suffer wayward shots.
The TX and PS are heavier than the S400 series so probably less suited to long rambles in the woods.
The good bits? You'll never run out of air, plinking sessions are only restricted by your arm or your pellet pouch. The satisfaction factor when you get it right is far higher with a springer. Springers are easier to work on, faults are easier to diagnose, you never get leaks!

as to are they better? it's apples and oranges. two completely different beasts. the satifaction when your on song with a spring piston rifle is better, but you will find a pcp easier to shoot. as tim has stated, you will find a springer heavy in comparison, but free from constraints of air equipment, you have a rifle and ammo, go shooting. sounds to me like you want one, and are looking for the little voice to say you need one. go with your gut feeling, you want one.

What a good question.

I've had much more satisfaction hunting with springers than with pcps.
On the other hand there's been lots of situations I'd not even consider as shooting opportunities with a springer, where as I may have considered very viable with a pcp .

In respect to a tx or a s400,it depends somewhat on what your perm demands,if it's trudging all day you might want to stick with the s400, if not and you get on with a springer-give a tx or any other springer a try.

Despite everything If I had to choose between my 400 or tx for hunting, generally the tx wins out.

Owning a TX200 MKIII in .177
It was a hard choice to make in the vast selection of Springers available today, but after some research I could not be happier with the rifle. You'll need to try a few different pellets to see what your gun prefers to make good groups.
I've shot mine for a year now and can say it's a excellent choice.

I love my S400 in .177. It's pellet on pellet all day at 25yds and tight at 40 yds. However my TX200 .177 is the one that makes me smile. Heavier yes but when you get the hold business mastered (for me it's the artillery hold) then the TX will go toe to toe with any PCP. I have a Prosport and HW97k which are superb bits of kit in their own right but if I had to keep only one gun (heaven forbid) it would be the TX200. If you go for one I know you won't regret it.
AA Prosport (Walnut) .177, AA TX200 Mk3 (Walnut) .177, AA S400f Carbine + Q-Tech (Walnut) .177
HW 97K .177, HW57 .22, HW45 .177 (& .22 barrel)

Have you found a gun that meets your needs yet Kevin?
Several good TX200 lovers here....
