Recomend me a sub £200 scope

Mon Mar 02, 2015 6:16 pm

I am looking for a scope for my s400.

It must be new and around £200.

Nothing too heavy.

It will be for general use, so a jack of all trades...

What would you buy??

An MTC Mamba light. I've seen them new for as low as £150 and up to £170 that would leave change for a decent set of mounts . Or you could buy the MTC MAMBA "Full" for I think about £200 and you get mounts with it.top scopes imho

A Nikon, without doubt, you can get a Prostaff for that budget and if your really lucky a nice monarch on the used buys (edit, sorry you want new, didn't read properly). I have an MTC Viper and Bushnell Elite but both my prostaff and Monarch knock spots off them for clarity and light transmission. Only downside is limited Recticle options but the plain cross hair suits me fine.

I'm with Dan on that, mamba or mamba light. Once you get used to the scb reticle it's fantastic if slightly cluttered, the sight picture is very clear and they seem to hold there zero very well :) If I remember correctly I paid about £180 for my 4-12x44 rir mamba and have been very pleased with it and can thoroughly recommend it :)

I cant help it ... I am biased towards the Hawke Sidewinder TAC30 in 10x42. Seems to do everything I need - Targets and hunting :) You will pick up a 2nd hand one in good nick for your budget.

I notice on most forums the MTC's have a huge following. It must be my eyes because if you compare the glass side-by-side with the Nikons then there is a clear difference. The MTC is a good scope but strangely hyped imo. The SBC recticle when you first look is very impressive, it is more accurate at hold overs than my plain rets, but after a while I realised it is far more than I need and with a little practice the hold overs on my plain ret's are pretty close.

To put it into context, my Monarch is closer to my shooting buddies .243 mounted £2k Swarovski Z6i than my MTC, at least to my eyes and the very limited time I've looked through the posh scope.

The Vortex scopes I would certainly look at, I have no experience except one of their monoculars which is decent.

Best advice is look yourself, it must be differing eyes. Like I said, not dissing the MTC at all, good scope, more fans than Man Utd and just as vocal about it ;)

The MTC is good enough to sit aboard the TX even if a little over kill...
