Ripped my stud out of the stock :(

Sun May 08, 2016 9:41 pm

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this, I extended the bipod and put maybe a little too much pressure on the legs as it ripped the whole stud and some of the rosewood eek. What's the best way to fix it and still put a stud back in???

have a look at Tappex, brass inserts, without seeing the damage, hard to say.

Glue in a tight fitting hard wood peg then rescrew the stud when the glue dries.

A slow setting epoxy should do the job. have you got a piccy, then it may work out as an easier job once we've seen it.

This might be the best solution if you have broken a piece out larger than the stud. Or you could drill out a dowel size hole, glue it and then find a decorative cap to cover.

I would use a Forstner bit to drill out a hole, you can buy them in most diameters from Screwfix, they cut perfectly without fraying the edges as long as you buy the decent ones they sell individually not the cheap sets! Then use a piece of dowel to fill the hole. PVA wood adhesive will do the job perfectly well.

if you removed the butt plate you could cut out a suitable sized plug out of the stock to refit in the damaged section ,and it would be the same wood and grain, done carefully with the right wood glue you shouldnt be able too tell you done it.hope this helps in your disaster.
