s510 xtra fac accuracy issues

Thu Apr 21, 2016 11:11 am

Hi all, I picked up an s510 extra fac in .22 yesterday, it's a 2nd hand rifle. I've tried an assortment of pellets including the one's which everyone recommends for it. I'm shooting between 1.5 and 2 inch groups at 43yards on full power, 170bar charge(seems to be best), I would have thought it would be well under an inch at this range, my sub 12ft/lb s200 which I traded for this along with cash would have shot a lot better than this. Are there ant o-rings or common simple fixes that any of you guy's know of??? I also cleaned and re-leaded the barrel.

Does it group better with the power turned down slightly.

Not really, I know what your getting at, a lot of the 15gr pellets are hitting the transonic zone when they're going too fast and shoot better a bit slower, but its not making much of a difference, I've shot a group without the mod on since I've posted and its a 0.7 inch 10 shot group at 43yards, considering there was a breeze blowing the pellets an inch to the right I think that's more in line with the accuracy I should be getting, I'm surprised because the pellets weren't clipping the mod but it seems to be making a difference.

Is the crown still good and is it consistent over a chrono.

I use both my 510's without moderators, had the same effect on mine, groups seem to open up slightly with a mod fitted.

Being a long standing owner of the 12 ft lbs S410's for over ten years and just moved to the FAC S510 with the shrouded barrel. I know for a fact that the moderator clips the pellets!.

I have to remove the moderator to take it home from the field and fitted a small O ring to stop the thing scraping the anodising. Which in itself is a horrendous thing for anyone with a pricey gun to see happen to a brand new rifle!.

Some days the accuracy is insane, but the next outing the moderator alignment must be off slightly and the pellets are miles off aim at 70 yards. Power wise, its easer to stick to full power with AA standard pellets and test it with and without the moderator.

I'm planning to bore out the moderator slightly, as the moderator sits after the baffles, unlike the S410 where it was right on the top of the crowning.

From what I've read its a similar problem with most of these shrouded barrels, H100 FAC is a good example.

I think it's the barrel shroud on them can be out of line, it didn't register with me yesterday that the threads for the mod are on the shroud not the barrel and the end of the shroud is 4 or 5 inches from the muzzle so it wouldn't have to be out by much to cause pellets to clip the mod, the mod makes so little difference to the sound level and the fact that the gun is so much shorter, better looking and easier to manage in tight spaces that I'm just leaving it off.

Took mine out for the first time Wednesday, apart from turning the power down inadvertently it was top notch.

Well it shot some really bad groups again today :( , I dont think my shot count is as high as it should be, I cocked the rifle(unloaded) put the muzzle against a pillow to create backpressure put my thumb in the breech and fired it a few times, im fairly sure I felt air, so im thinking I need to replace the breech seal, theres a video on how to replace it but it doesnt show how to get the old one out, any info on this?
