Scope Question !!

Wed Mar 23, 2016 5:33 am

Hi guys abit of a newbie question here on something I have never noticed till my friend mentioned it, is it possible to have your hold over and hold under set the wrong way round on your scope. I have zeroed both my scopes at 40 yards and there spot on. But my friend had a shot at 20 yards so he had to use hold under but when he dropped down on the cross hairs for hold under it went way high he said my scopes are set wrong way round say i want to shoot at 20 yards i would have to go 2 mil dots up he said it should be 2 Mildots down for a 20 yard shot when zeroed at 40 if he's write my scopes need recentering and then rezeroing so guys my question is are my scopes already set right or is my friend write in what he is saying let me know guys thx.

To aim lower you use the upper mil dots and to aim high you use your lower mil dots

zero my .177 at 35 yards .
that way i use the same mil dot for every gun .
at 12 yards i am at zero first time pellet cuts sight line .
at 25 yards -.75 hold under
at 20 yards -.5 hold under
i use x 10 as i get true mil dot on my MTC scopes .

Your phrases are upside down.
Above the line is hold under, not below, that's hold over.

Your shot is going high because you are holding the aim point under the centre line, hence, hold over. The scope can't be upside down or the turrets would touch the block, and if it was, it wouldn't make any difference.

Thx for the replys guys so yes I think I may defiantly have my scopes set the wrong way round if I have I will let you know it's only a case of resetting the scopes then isn't it.

A degree of logic regarding hold-over is all that is required. As to whether it should be hold-over or under for a certain range is down to your zeroing and general performance.

I dont see what all the fuss is about. If I am hitting low or high, I just turn the target upside down and it seems to sort itself out :? :?

Either that or the gun is upside down. After all, tyres only go flat at the bottom but people panic and spend hundreds of pounds on them.
