Strange Issue with my S410

So, had the gun from new, been very happy with it. Its pretty standard apart from a Deben Whisper 180 mod. Approx 3 months ago it started throwing some wild shots so I assumed it needed a clean. At this point I will say that its never had a heavy drop or anything like that. The only thing to ever happen to it was when it was in a padded slip it slid to to the floor in the hall. This knocked the zero slightly but was soon rectified. It has been perfect since, for months.

When I went to remove the mod to clean the barrel it was difficult to get off, when fitted it slid on easily. After I had cleaned it, I tried to replace the mod but could only get the mod on about half way, I would have needed to force it onto the barrel to get it back in place, so i didn't. the barrel looks fine, no signs of damage on it or the mod. Deben were very kind and sent a new 'collar' and grub screw as I assumed something had gone wrong with it. Sadly this made no difference. The original barrel end piece that came with the rifle fitted, a little tighter but still went on. The rifle is still accurate over short distances now.

Today i went to the British Shooting Show at Stoneleigh and purchased a Q-Tec mod for it. Same issue, it won't fit so clearly there is something wrong with the barrel, but what and how the hell did it happen?

Any suggestions??

Why your having fitting mods for that one i dont have an answer.
As for the odd flier.you say that you have knocked the rifle so have you checked the barrel band is not loose.

I've only shot it over close distances since the issue started, it seems fine for that. I need to try it properly but the weather has been so poor, waiting for a still day is like waiting for MPs to stop being crooks....................

I did check the barrel band, it didn't make any difference, very confused!

Undo the band and allow the barrel to spring back to its normal position. You can now tighten it back up. Give your barrel a quick clean using a pull through and dry patch. Now go and try it without the mod on.

Hi,

Look at the stepped down end of the barrel and see if the grub screw has chewed it up a bit. If it has remove the high spot with a piece of fine emery. Yes it will remove a little of the bluing but you can use Touch up blue, black indelible marker pen or just put the collar/moderator back on as it covers the mark anyhow.

Are you sure the grub screws are coming out far enough? If not the mod will be off centre. Other than that, as above, a burr will have the same effect.

If the silencer once fitted but now dosn't and you've tried other silencers and had the same trouble then a, the turned down end of the barrel is bent, or b, it has a burr. :?

Yes i would say the same has geordie the barrel end sounds like you have a fraction of a warp at the end it only has to be off by a thousand of a mil to throw it out you wouldn't notice by looking at it, The only way i could suggest an easy way to find out is use a meter set square put it onto the breach block with the l shape running down the barrel and then measure the distances at the end of your barrel to see if they are the same at the breach block then you will see if it has a slight warp in it hope this helps.
