Quiet Shooting

Over the past month I have been busy tuning up two of my rifles, which is now complete. Unfortunately my back garden is overlooked on three sides, and shooting outdoors would draw too much attention. I use the Caldwell Chronograph to assess my rifles legality, and if I do shoot outdoors its normally from within the kitchen, through the chronograph and into my 17cm x 17cm metal target holder. When the weather is bad, I have to do this indoors, while I am on my own. I was using card and paper to pack out the target holder, to reduce the metal twang, that can draw attention, but after so long this is no longer useful, as the pellets always burrow a hole and the twang re-appears. The other day, while picking my wife up from Tesco, I asked her if they sold Playdough. Luckily they did, and for £3 I was able to buy a pack of 5 tubs. I came home and mixed all the dough together and then packed out the target holder. I couldn't believe what a difference this made. From now on, all you can hear is the sound of my suppressor, no twang, and all the pellets pack together. The playdough has completely dampened out the sound.

for back garden shooting, i always work on the principle of, what the neighbours cant hear or see, they cant complain about.

I use a couple of sheets of lead flashing with a slight gap in between them, every pellet just makes it thicker

The quietest back stop I have found is an old quilt which I folded and rolled up and tied tight.
The pellet going through paper is louder than the impact on the quilt.


BTW anyone know what time the shooting for show opens on Sunday?

Show opens 08.30am to 16.30pm on all 3 days of the show.
Car Parks open at 06.45am with access to toilets, breakfast snacks and hot drinks. Car Parking is FREE
One Day Admission tickets are not day dependent, you can use your one day ticket on either Fri 12th, Sat 13th or Sun 14th
Dog’s are allowed at the show but limited to 1 dog per person with all normal courtesies applied
For disabled parking, there are no disabled permits, just display your blue badge in the window
The name on all the tickets will appear in the name of the person who books.

I use a trumpet shaped pellet trap filled with plumbers putty,every now and again i remove putty and knead the used pellets out and refit the putty.job done
