S410 or S510

Could you please give an honest opinion of which out of the two would suit me best!
I wont be shooting thousands of pellets, probably only for target shooting on a farm & in garden with the odd rat & squirrel pest control, I would do my own maintenance therefore thinking the older S410 would be a better choice as there should be more spares around, but do they require more to keep them going? How long is it before both models would require new seals etc.
My first post so please be gentle with me

Welcome to the AAOC.
The only real difference is that the 400 series has a bolt and the 500 series have a side lever.
You will get a 410 for less money and will fit the bill.

As bbf said the main difference is the 4*** is bolt action and the 5*** is a side lever jobbie, it's really down to personal preference so try and at least dry cycle them both in the shop and see which is most natural to you. I personally favour a bolt action over a straight pull but just as many would say the opposite, when all is said and done you'll be over the moon with either (unless you shoulder an R10

)

I must admit a love side-lever action as you can load the rifle without removing your head from the stock this gives you a fast more accurate follow up shot, because you have not moved your head from the scope and the target... side-lever action is very useful and very slick and fast with the benefits of fast and more accurate follow up shot.
I guess I have been spoiled by the lovely smooth side-lever action of my HW100.... takes some beating. What a lovely magazine system and butter smooth Side-lever.
Although,,, with all been said My AA, TDR has a bolt when new it is a little stiff, but smooths out with usage. the TDR is a lovely rifle indeed and astonishing accuracy.
The TDR would be almost perfect if it had the side-lever from the S510 action... This would then be the perfect light weight Hunter, along with my 500cc top up portable air tank...

Hi welcome to the AAOC.
As BBf says they are both very good rifles, although i like the S410 personaly, as I like the look of the bolt mechanism.
Its always best to try before you buy if you have the chance. What suits me may not suit you etc etc.
Where are you located maybe some of us on here can let you try either of them

The 500 series have a variety of different stocks in like the 400's,but they are all interchangeable .
Buying the stock and action together yields the best price though

welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have,i have a 510 ,I have had a 400 and 200 as well, my favourite is the 510, super smooth great to shoot , I also target shoot in competition with it, for slr or bench is soo good not to have to take the rifle away from your cheek and just cycle it with out looking ,makes for easier target shooting everytime.i also field shoot with it have nv on it when its in use, have also tried hft and ft with it the rifles great just me not up too the task,

,,, which ever you choose both are great air rifles.
