Has anyone re-barreled their AA s200 for the "middle caliber" yet? As far as I can work it out this would require only a new barrel and pellet tray if single loading and a .177 magazine re-bored to .20 if going multi-shot. O.K; there may be a need for some slight tweaks to the power, but not much. Am I wrong??

how about the pellet probe? i don't know if it's different for .177/.22 if it is, i would think it would need to be re-machined

Yes,I see your point. A new o ring would be needed but is the shoulder big enough to support it? There would be a problem if a new o-ring wouldn't seal the breech.

for some reason I think the o-ring on the probe is the same for .177 and .22 so there might not be that much of a problem maybe getting a .22 probe modified to suit

Yes , I have just ordered a new probe oring for my s200 and it's the same for .177 and .22. So I'm sure it would be easy enough just to change the barrel and machine down A .22 probe.

The power settings would need altering to suit obviously.

Not sure why anyone would want a .20 version tho??

While many call 5mm/.20 a compromise caliber I would prefer to call it the 'best of both worlds' caliber. We all know that .177 has the flatter trajectory and .22 has the heavier 'shock' impact, halfway between must have some of the virtues of both. I want say it's like the Liberal party compared to Labour or the Tories but, looking back, I'm not too sure that holds true anymore. Anyway, I want to try .20 and the possibility of converting my own [known quantity] rifle interests me.

I have a .20 Rapid and its the best calibre by far for hunting and my Rapid was previously .22 then .177. For targets it's far better than .22.

you could argue that you`re losing the benefits of both though? you`d certainly be limiting your choice of pellets!

I find JSB Exact or Air Arms FT (same pellet really) in .20 are good for everything and very accurate.

I think it's fair to say that, with dozens (hundreds) of pellets available to the British shooter only a few, mainly made in the Czech republic or Germany are worthy choices for hunting. The same manufacturers make .20s!
