Re: tx fps
a good one in single figures. 24 fps is not good. could i ask if once fired do you smell a sweet smoky smell, if so it's dieseling, which wont help. breech seal could be poor, piston seal etc. what pellets are you using and what are the figures you are getting? to be honest even unweighed pellets straight out of the tin should perform better than what you are getting.
Re: tx fps
hi gary no sweet smell, im useing jsb exacts 4.53, just orderd some breach seals to see if its that, got difrent piston seals to try. and its got a vortec kit in it. cheers tony.
Re: tx fps
I like to see 10 fps or less in a 10 shot string. I have seen many shot strings that were under 5 fps spread be ruined by 1 shot. I shoot straight from the tin and suspect that it's just the odd pellet that throws off a good string. In the end it's accuracy that matters. I had an HW97 for several weeks and it was the most consistent springer I've ever seen. I shot many 10 shot strings with different brands of pellets that had a spread of 2 fps. It just never went over that spread, but it would not group at all. I couldn't better a 1" group at 25 m with any of the many types of pellets I tried. If the gun is accurate, don't worry about the spread so much.
Re: tx fps
I had a unmolested hw97.22 that spat out AAF no more than 3fps difference over 10 shots
In fact Ive been told springers are normally more consistant than pcps

If it aint broke, fix it till it is
Re: tx fps
With weighed pellets <5fps over a 20 shot string is easily obtainable... PCP's pah!, who needs them

Re: tx fps
you mentioned you have just put a vortec kit in, does that include the o ring piston seal? o rings usually give very consistant performance, just watch not to over lube it.
shoot around 20 shots trough it first, then try again.

Re: tx fps
Can't speak for the current ones but, older Vortek o-ring seals were renown for often being a very poor fit and with o-ring seals getting the crush precise is critical for good performance.
