Shooting uphill.

I was shooting woodies today in a tall beech tree and the shots were about 45 - 50 degrees. The distance was 45 yards.
Shot 1 forgot to hold over by 1MD but stoned the woodie.
Shots 2 & 3 , 1 MD holdover and missed both but on the 2nd one saw the pellet miss high.
Went back to no hold over and did 7 woodies and a jackdaw.
Convinced my scope had taken a knock I then shot a target at 45 yards and it was 1 MD low?????????

If shooting uphill you aim slightly low anyway as the barrel is already aimed slightly high to compensate for gravity.
Think of it this way, if you aimed directly up at 90 degrees from the ground, the pellet would go off 4 degrees to the back of you. To make it land back on the rifle you would have to aim at around 87 degrees from the level.

What???
If the barrel is exactly in the vertical plane and ignoring the usual (wind drift, earths rotation etc) then in theory the pellet should return from whence it came.

Ruddy Hell !!! It is Mr.Cartledge

So glad to see you are still alive, Steve
And getting back on topic, Brooksy never said the barrel was vertical
If the scope is vertcal, the barrel wouldnt be vertical.
He didnt say the scope was vertical either ... but I think he meant it.
Where is Wastrel? He would make this topic so much more lively

Aaah,

Raj how the devil are you? ......and how's Edna?
I don't tend to post much at all these days, but miss the banter from the old site (especially zings) I shall have to get to one more AAOC weekend, I've abandoned the tent idea though (that's because I forget it!)
