Lead Free Pellets

Wed Feb 18, 2015 2:07 pm

Hello from Monterey California. I am a pest control guy. On of my gigs is forcing me to start using lead free pellets. I am currently shooting a fairly new .22 synrod. It doesn't shoot those lead free pellets very well. I am considering buying an S510 because of its reputation for accuracy. Is it also accurate shooting lead free pellets?

Met a fellow who shot a logun S16 & swore by promethues pellets, seen these rated elsewhere as rubbish so, perhaps they are just barrel fussy? Here in uk on ebay, there are sellers who supply varied makes of pellet in 20 50 & 100 of each, prices going up accordingly of course, I'd look for one of these over there or go to ebay uk & see if any of them will post to you.
it'll come down to the old adage, try as many different makes for yourself & see which if any suit you/your gun!

In the U.K. the lead free pellets do not have a good reputation, in fact they don't have any reputation.

As Wastrel say you must try as many as you can in your rifle. It may be you can live with the generated accuracy at closer distances. Longer range, I've not heard of any that are any good.

Thank you for your responses. The thing is, I would have an easier mind ordering the S510 if I thought it would somehow perform better with the lead free pellets than my Synrod. Overall with JSBs Im sure the S510 is much more consistent than the Marauder, but there is quite a bit hinging on the lead free pellets.

H&N have recently bought PAX pellets (UK)

PAX used to make a "Stanic" pellet (Tin based) that wasn't too bad. It may be possible to get reasonable accuracy up to around 30yds but I don't know if this is sufficient for you.

It's a few years ago but I remember watching someone using Logun Penetrators in a .22 S400 and hitting paint ball targets out to 55 yards.

Thanks Raygun that might be the answer after all. Ill try them in my Marauder, if they are a little better there, Im sure they will be a lot better in an S510. My target range is up to 30 yards in most cases. Thanks again.

think logun penetrators are lead.
i know someone who uses em. they're as accurate as domed pellets in HIS rifle which is fine for hunting, but he knows better than to try and tell me about how ''hard hitting'' they are
he gave me a few to try once, and i must admit, they are well made and one of the better so called hunting pellets ;)

I've just found an old Penetrator tub and it seems you're quite right, part of the text on the lid reads, and I quote "No Lead Pellet Penetrates Deeper-Guaranteed!".
