Hawke Varmint 3-12

Mon Aug 03, 2015 3:57 pm

Hi
After getting inputs from this forum & feedback from pocket, bought a hawke varmint sf 3-12x44 scope. Didnt get time to test the scope but zeroed it at 10 yds for now. The things a i like is that it focuses well at 10 yds with full mag, but the problem is with small sf knob its very difficult to range find or focus for in between distances. So my question is will the UTG 100mm sidewheel can be used with my setup or any other affordable alternativeavailable. Rowan has got absolutely wonderful product but the price is too high for my liking.

Hi Moulindu
I am sorry that your post did not get replies, it is the holiday season here and also the AAOC just had their annual meeting event so people have perhaps been somewhat preoccupied.
Using the scopes parallax for range finding is mainly (but, not exclusively) the domain of the Field Target discipline and to use the technique effectively across the typical Field Target ranges (8-50m) you need a scope with a higher magnification capability (typically >x30 plus a few other characteristics...).
For hunting and the HFT (hunter field target) discipline people tend to estimate the range of the quarry / target and then use hold over / under via the scope reticule to adjust for the range in question.
Thus putting a sidewheel on a 3-12 x scope is not something that most people would bother to do, although fashion probably encourages some to do so!.

Hope that helps, if you would like any more info or have questions feel free to PM me.

I wish you safe (and accurate) shooting.
