Good evening guys, a quick question,
I have just been given an unwanted Argon welding bottle that is marked at 300 bar.
Does anyone know if i would be able to use it for my Pcp's

if its a proper gas bottle with all the markings stamped into the bottle the only difference is the colour its painted, bear in mind that test dates are from manufacture date and then covered by a stick on label to show its been tested(for air), can`t remember ever seeing any test label on an industrial gas bottle so even if you repaint it , it might need a test before they fill/swap it

Take it in to your local filling station and ask them. They are the ones that would refuse to fill it if it wasn't right and it doesn't really matter if they're right or wrong. They are the ones who would fill it, or not.

If its cleaned out and tested it should be Ok. How big is it. You might stuggle to get it filled if itss a larger type bottle. Or it cost a fortune. Let us know how you get on.

Assuming it was previously for welding, with a low pressure requirement, it may need a different regulator. In which case, the person filling it may want the threads of the bottle and new regulator checked to make sure they are good.

My local insists on this for new bottles and regs, or ones which are empty and/or unknown history. As he says, its him stood next to it when its getting filled for the first time. My first fill was £20 including check and filling.

looks like i was wrong about welding gas
Just had a look, and when cleaned off, found a sticker that says..... Cellargas 30% CO2 in N2. for use in food!
50 kg stamped on the bottle, 300bar, and date of manufacture 2002.
I assume this has been used in a pub cellar.
Will take it to my local filling station later this week, and see what they have to say about it.
