Yep agree, i use my shooting sticks to give me the steady platform for accuracy or more importantly taking quarry, having said that the best shot i ever took was a 35 yrd rabbit kneeling with the prosport

Like Steve, I do the best I can, use any advantage I can to put as many shots in the right place as possible. If that means carrying a plastic chair across a field so I can sit down and use my padded sticks then that's what I'll do, 99% of shooters can't be accurate enough freehand to hunt effectively.
We do this most of the time now. Even ratting is much more of a success if your sitting down. The Nite Site I have makes it even better for comfort as you don't need to raise the scope to eye level. You can simply rest the rifle on your thigh. I always thought it would feel so alien to shoot in this position. I was wrong and you very quickly become used to it.

When my gun was new I was shooting 5mm ragged holes at 30 yards and raggide 5 pence at 50 yards in nil wind. Though said gun doesn't seem up to the task anymore as it's been a bit neglected.

All my hunting shots are taken prone and rested on a set of shooting sticks I've made ... or rested on gates, fences, tree .... whatever. I have never pulled a bead on live quarry free hand .

Well it would seem that I now have the answer to my original question thanks to all that contributed, shot these groupings yesterday 5 shots at each target rested on a bag filled with rice, happy days.
