S400 pellet on pellet groupings fact or fiction ?

aye up ken,
the s400 will, and does outshoot any of us, and ragged 1 holers @ 30yds are achievable if we get it right
clean the barrel, then re-lead it by doing a shot string over the chrono, and then only use your best 50 shots in the sweet spot.
make sure your scope is true to a plumb line, draw a horizontal line on a piece of paper @ 30yds, get yerself bench rested, and fire 5 shot groups at the line.
dont worry about pellets striking left or right at the moment, get your shots zeroed horizontally, then take it from there

S200, AA fields.
Si Pittaway on youtube has put pellet on pellet shots, on film, Verminhunters tv channel if memory serves.
he also hit exploding targets (that refused to play along!) at 90 yes ninety something metres!
but, all of the above were from a rest, pellet on pellet accuracy with a 400 is achievable, but, freehand, Hmm, lucky shot I`d say.

So called pellet on pellet. What is the acceptable group size or do you really want 4.5 mm pellets through a 4.6mm hole?
Ken, if you really want to practice for that kind of accuracy, get hold of some graph paper and dab a felt pen on intersecting lines about 25mm apart, then shoot single shots at each dot. I find that easier than shooting groups where you obliterate your aimpoint within a couple of shots.
Here's some 20 yard groups I did recently, all five shots, resting on a crate and a cushion.

That was the Prosport, realistically a PCP will be easier to shoot and therefore MAY achieve slightly tighter groups.

Freehand is something different! Resting gives a better indication of what the rifle can do, it also proves how useless most of us are with an unsupported rifle.

If unsupported shooting was required I'd be banned I'm that bad. Shooting is like owt else though, you play to your strengths not your weaknesses It's human nature to do so when required, I see no shame in that.

if i was good at shooting freehand, which i'm certainly not i'd still opt for a rested shot when hunting.
i never go without my shooting sticks, and even then i'm always having a look for somewhere to rest my right elbow for a rock steady hold.
i've recently shot 49 rats and 4 mice here by the boats, and only missed 1, and had 1 rat that i couldnt recover. not because i'm a good shot, but because i took them all from a bench rested position sitting at franks patio table cheat fairly, thats my motto
