at last!, a proper post/debate. now. all that up above is rubbish
I used to shoot a .22 HW77 & Airsporter with a mate who`d a HW90 in .177, he wiped the floor with me every time in the bunny count!
it`s not the calibre, it`s understanding your gun, gauging distances & knowing how to adjust to suit through your scope, Raj`ll give you a lesson, (so will all of the guys above, I`m just winding them up!)
I`ve a near recoiless springer in .177 & one o these days I`m gonna pit it, at daft distances, against my S200 in .22 & post the results on here, good quality ammo is a great help here as well!
knowledge is the key.

Thanks for that,I've no intension of getting a .177,or p.c.p,as the tx is a great airgun, and very accurate, a 10 year old can shoot a p.c.p  ,but you need more talent for a springer,by the way my name is paul, what's yours and we're you from bud, :D

up to a few years back me and my lad used pcp"s target shooting, but for me it was too easy , so now we shoot only springers,
my son is 14 and only been on springers about 2 months now , me and him can both shoot 1.77 pellets placed on a log at 90 feet very easily with a bench rest , some times if we get fed up shooting the targets we have a competition to see who can be the first to shoot a blade of nominated grass in front of the target box , usually its who ever gets the shot off first gets it ( the spotter / nominator usually has the advantage as his sights are on it has he calls it )

standing thats a different ball game given his rifle is a walther lgu ten toner ,
like you say , you have a lot more to master with a springer and thats before you start to use different positions ,

the thread started around FT. so where the feathers and fur came in i dont know. FT is not simulated hunting by any way shape or form. shooting a crow in the chest at 55 yards? the garish shooting jackets, gloves strange looking rifles no concealment etc. our quarry is very different, its blind has no sense of smell has no fear of humans wont hop away totally deaf. if you miss you can attach a bayonet walk up to it stamping your feet shouting and beat it with the butt of your rifle. its target based just like the thread started out. just enjoy have a go, use the .22 if you wish.

its just a saying ! it means 177 have more straighter longer projectory and less hitting power where as the 22 has a shorter projectory but has a bigger hitting power for things bigger than birds, he was not referring to hunting in this case,

ok what about a gusty side wind at 20yrd which would have more chance on the target ?
a heaver .22 or a faster but lighter 1.77
who do you thing would be more on the target !

if both are springers the .22 maybe a smoother / less recoil over the 1.77
or if both are pcps ( which i am not that well up on ) is there any difference at 20yrd if you are a good shot .
