That's unusual, my s410 xtra is wickedly accurate but I never bothered with a moderator. If you just cleaned it, you might need to relead the barrel.

Changing the breach seal is simple. Use a paperclip and just be careful. Mine was gone a while back and I was down in power by about 30%.

Also mine prefers the slightly heavier pellets and the jsb jumbo heavies 18.13 gr are the best performing pellets out of mine.

BforBarney wrote:Well it shot some really bad groups again today :( , I dont think my shot count is as high as it should be, I cocked the rifle(unloaded) put the muzzle against a pillow to create backpressure put my thumb in the breech and fired it a few times, im fairly sure I felt air, so im thinking I need to replace the breech seal, theres a video on how to replace it but it doesnt show how to get the old one out, any info on this?

Assuming it's similar to that fitted to the 4**'s its fairly simple to remove, with great care, by hooking it out with a seal pick. There is no need to disassemble the rifle but you do need to be VERY careful not to scratch the soft brass carrier! I personally found refitting the replacement trickier than the removal of the old one and eventually persuaded it in to place by roughly inserting it in to the breech (raj, ebo, bbf etc, don't even go there   ) and using a pellet to align it in to the groove ;)

I have been following this thread with great interest.

So, I am not the only one with accuracy problems with the S510 FAC. I have had mine for eight months bought new. I have tried different scopes.

Chrono results are a 14 fps difference over 18 shots which I think is good.

I have stopped using a moderator also. I don't know if it was causing problems but as was said it made little difference to the noise.

The latest thing is I have changed the eye relief by about 20 to 30mm. Now I am waiting for a still day and my sheep to give me permission to shoot in their field.

The above is 3, 10 shot groups at 43yards, zero wind, full power jsb 15.9gr, 30shots brought me from 200bar to 150bar, from watching graphs of powercurves on s510's I think I should be getting 40ish shots, so maybe I need to change the breech seal, I'll do it again with 18gr pellets and post results. Groups are an inch and over I was expecting this at 80yards tbh.

Edit, bottom 3 groups and the top right are 10 shot groups with 18gr AA diabolo's, the 3rd group is only 7 shots, 3 of them clipped a gate on the way, so it's not as good as it looks.

Over the Chrono I get 30 shots from my 510 FAC before it falls off. I think that is the norm at full power, my average over the 30 shots is 31.12 ft/lbs.

Mightn't be the breech seal at all then, I'll know more when I shoot it over a chrono, thanks for the info, is the general concensus with you guy's that those groups are bad and should be a lot better? I've only ever seen these rifles shooting on youtube.

The groups look tighter than most of mine

I am a great fan of s400/510 series, but the shrouded barrels can be a real pain, my .22 s510 clipped the mod,I took it to A/A and they gave me another mod for it, needless to say it clipped that one aswell, in the death I junked the shroud and a mate of mine made me a barrel band, it's been fine ever since. I have one in .177 aswell, that also clipped,I took a drill to the mod,and that's fine now also, made me laugh when they brought out the ultimate sporter and put the mod on the barrel where it should have been in the first place. But have to say once sorted they are brilliant bits of kit, I have an S400 .177 with a Rowan mag that deals with rabbits & squirrels out to 50yds if conditions are right. Shrouds who needs them! Rog

Thanks Roger, I might try shooting it without the shroud when I get it off if that's possible(to shoot it without the shroud), and narrow things down a bit more.

I'm after checking the thread cover and there's a streak of lead along one side of it, I don't know why I didn't check sooner, what am I going to do? Take it off and try and re-align it somehow I suppose, any tips or tricks let me know.
